Things 20-23 require sound. You may need to make arrangements to use a computer with sound to complete these exercises.

Thing #20 for PLCMC features YouTube, but since the streaming video does not play well on the thin client stations in our library... we are asking everyone to listen to a sample of the streaming audio music from the library's new databases found online at http://www.spokanelibrary.org/research/electronicresources.asp#Music

Find your earbuds from Staff Day and listen privately!

Options include African American Song, Classical Music Library, and Smithsonian Global Sound -- Listen to something appropriate to the season, from a country you've never tried to spell or an instrument you especially like.

Offer an honest assessment of the music on your blog. Would YOU or your family ever choose to listen to music this way?

catching up with the rest of the library

I am focusing very slowly on 2.0 exercises this month. Playing with an image generator hasn't been possible till now. I was curious earlier about the M & M option, but today I'm in need of poshness.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

This is the new Coeur d'Alene Public Library. What a huge improvement for the citizens of CDA!

Today is rather grey outside so as part of my Flickr learning, I'm adding a multi-color image of central California. I adore the colors in Manito and along the city streets this time of year. The exercise prompts me to carry along a digital camera.

Flickr has made it possible for those [like me] without strong experience with 35 mm cameras to share slideshows for work or family.

AV recommendations

My goal is to add a BLOG to the new SPL website with film and music suggestions. The popular items are already so popular I'll probably call attention to less familiar artists or non-feature films. I intent to link to the ROTTEN TOMATOES website because it is a wealth of information on films -- forthcoming and classics! Have you seen http://www.rottentomatoes.com/movies/ ?

AWAY FROM HER, with Julie Christie

The film opened earlier in May in some cities, but hasn't reached Spokane yet. Away from Her is based on an Alice Munro short story called "The bear came over the mountain." The film reveals the story of a fading romance and a beautiful woman losing her mental faculties. Julie Christie portrays the Alzheimer patient who moves to a nursing home and Gordon Pinsent plays the loving husband who struggles as she slips away.

When will this compassionate tale reach our theaters?

SPL 2.0

Cindy and I are preparing for our 2007 Staff Day presentation and are feeling slightly overwhelmed by what we COULD cover in the time allotted. Our personal goal is to make the session fun and enlightening to the wide variety of tech-savvy or less savvy staff.

Testing new tools and means to get our message across. . . . Chocolate always helps!
